| MACC February Meeting Minutes | Metamora Area Chamber of Commerce General Membership Meeting February 10, 2010 Pilgrim Presbyterian Church
The meeting was called to order by President Wes Wickham at 12:40 pm. Members present: Wes Wickham (individual), Carole Porretta (Coventry Realty), Shari Nicoloff (Metamora Foodland), Bethany Kurtz (Servpro), Mike Hoban (Lapeer County Republican Party), Rod Thole (Pilgrim Presbyterian Church), Phil Andreae (Philip J. Andreae Realtors), and Betsy Bartlett (Curves of Metamora). Minutes: The minutes from the January meeting were approved as presented. Treasurer’s Report: Phil presented a lengthy yearly treasurer’s report in addition to the monthly treasurer’s report; both were approved as presented. Membership: Carole reported that 53 members had already signed up for 2010 with 25 of those opting for the 2 year program. We (Carole) will be sending out thank you letters along with membership decals as people send in their memberships. We are also getting a good number of sponsorships along with the membership applications. Investigation will continue about bulk mailing for the membership. MAYDA: Phil gave a brief report on MAYDA and the status of our upcoming grant application. PR: Pat Hackney has moved south for the Winter but will get with Wes when she returns about the “Cooking for Charity” schedule. Metamora Country Days: Wes gave an update on Monday’s Country Days and Hot Air Balloon Festival meeting and stressed that there were many options available to volunteers. The committee will meet the first Tuesday of the month at 6 pm. Locations will be posted on the website and sent by email to those asking for it. New Business: Discussion followed on soliciting the membership to use our website for their promotions. The Celebration of the Horse was talked about and the group expressed an interest in having the Chamber more involved; Wes will talk to Carole Yunkes about what can we do. Carole had told Wes that she was in the strong running for getting the Budweiser Clydesdales to participate this year; she will know for sure within the next month. The discussion then turned to funding of a Chamber director; the group felt that at this point in time we should try to get the membership to each volunteer more to help rather than incur more expense. We currently are looking for someone to assist with the Web site www.metamorachamber.org and to fill the position of PR chairperson. Dawn Garcia also will need a lot of help with Country Days.
Thanks were given to Shari (Metamora Foodland) for bringing the lunch and to the members for braving the poor weather!
The meeting was adjourned at 1:30.

| Curves of Metamora Announces Annual Food Drive | The Curves Clubs of Lapeer County are encouraging women in the area to show their philanthropic strength by participating in the annual Curves Food Drive.
From March 1 to 31, Curves of Lapeer, Imlay City and Metamora will collect non-perishable items and monetary donations for food banks in the local area. The goal is for the community to come together to help families in need. "At the core of our business is the message that women are stronger when they rally together, and that is the point we hope to bring home with our food drive. We want to show our community just how powerful the generosity of our members can be." For all new members, Curves will waive the cost to join when you donate a bag of groceries or make a minimum donation of $30.
Each year, Curves locations collectively donate millions of pounds of food to feed the hungry. "We hope women in the Lapeer County area will come together and participate in this initiative. Even if you’re not thinking about joining Curves, you can still drop off your donations. There are so many families – right here in our own community – who need our help."
For more information about Curves, please call Curves of Lapeer at 664-4099, Curves of Metamora at 678-3208, or Curves of Imlay City at 724-2878. | |
